Call transcription and AI summaries
How to get a recap and a full transcript of a video call in the thread
After a call, someone has to write up the results: what was decided, who's doing what and by when. Now Pachca can do it for you. It transcribes the conversation and turns it into an AI summary, a short recap of the meeting. This article explains how it works and how to set it up for your team.
What is call transcription
Transcription turns what participants say in a video call into text. During the call, Pachca keeps track of who said what. When the call ends, it posts two things to the thread under the call message, the same place where the recording arrives:
- An AI summary: a short recap of the meeting covering what was discussed, what was decided and which tasks were planned
- The full transcript of the conversation
Everyone with access to the chat can see the results, including people who missed the meeting.
How to turn on transcription
In chats and channels, transcription starts automatically at the beginning of every call by default. You don't need to do anything.
In one-on-one calls, or if auto-start is turned off for the chat, you start it manually: click "⋯" in the bottom bar of the call and choose Start transcription. To stop it, choose Stop transcription in the same menu.
In group video calls, a moderator can stop participants from starting transcription. They then see the note "The moderator disallowed transcription," and only moderators can start it.

Click "⋯" in the call bar and choose "Start transcription".
How to configure AI summaries
The settings live in the chat: click the arrow next to the video call button in the chat header and choose Configure AI summary. There are two settings:
- Automatic transcription: start transcription at the beginning of every call in this chat. If you turn it off, you'll need to start transcription manually during the call.
- Summary prompt: the instruction the AI follows to write the recap. Leave it empty to use Pachca's default prompt. For example: "Summarize the call: 2–3 sentences with the key points, then 'Decisions' and 'Tasks' with owners and deadlines."
The settings apply to all calls in this chat.

Sure. We'll grab the outcomes from the summary in the thread.
Click the arrow next to the video chat button in the chat header and choose "Configure AI summary".
What to know about the beta
Transcription is in public beta, and we're rolling it out to workspaces gradually. If you don't see Start transcription in the call menu or Configure AI summary in the video call button menu, the beta hasn't reached your workspace yet. Access will come with time, and there's nothing you need to set up.
Speech recognition can still get names, terms and numbers wrong, so double-check important decisions against the transcript. We keep improving the quality.
